Dr Katie Ford BVSc CertAVP(SAM) PGCert MSc FRCVS

Building something for the veterinary world? Let's make sure it lands.

I'm Katie - veterinary consultant, business brain, and the person organisations call when they want their event, idea or product to actually connect with the profession. Strategy, direction and honest feedback, from someone who's sat on every side of the table.

Dr Katie Ford, veterinary surgeon and strategic consultant

01 - Who I am

Who I am

I qualified as a vet in 2012 and spent twelve years in clinical practice - first opinion, emergency, the lot. Along the way I picked up a certificate in internal medicine, an MSc in emotional wellbeing, an RCVS Inspiration Award, and a Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. More usefully for you, I picked up an obsession with how this profession actually works: what its people care about, what they're tired of, and what makes them lean in.

Since 2020 I've co-directed Vet Empowered, an award-winning coaching and development company for the people of vetmed. I've spoken at every major UK veterinary conference and internationally, built an audience of around 24,000 across platforms, and worked behind the scenes on some of the profession's best-loved events.

Which means when you bring me into your project, you're not getting a consultant who once read about vets. You're getting someone who has been the clinician in the consult room, the founder building the business, the speaker on the stage, the person seeking the sponsorship, and the one running the tech when the conference goes live. That perspective is hard to buy. It's the whole reason people email me.

02 - What I do

What I do

Strategic input for veterinary and animal health businesses of all sizes - from solo founders to large organisations. Not an agency. Not a course. Me, looking at your thing properly, and telling you what I actually think.

Strategy and direction

Honest, experienced input on your product, service, event or idea. Where it fits, who it's really for, what the profession will make of it, and what to do first. I've helped everyone from small membership businesses to national organisations find their next right step.

Sponsorship that actually works

I help organisations understand what sponsors are looking for, build packages worth saying yes to, and put the whole thing together. This work has secured £10,000 in sponsorship for a small canine care business's annual event, and another £10,000 for a veterinary organisation's event.

Events and conferences, done right

I've directed and delivered the tech and production behind some of the profession's biggest online conferences, and organised large-scale in-person events. These days I don't run events - but I'll help you plan yours so it works: format, programme, platforms, sponsorship, and the hundred details nobody warns you about.

Understanding the veterinary audience

Talks and sessions for pharmaceutical sales teams on the real challenges their clients in practice are facing. Onboarding for recruitment teams new to the profession. Feedback on comms, campaigns and positioning from someone who knows exactly how they'll land in a staff room.

Connections and routes to market

Introductions to key opinion leaders, help understanding routes to market in the veterinary and animal health space, and strategy for new groups and initiatives finding their feet - from first website to position paper to how the meetings should even run.

03 - Track record

The kind of thing I've done

  • Directed the behind-the-scenes tech for large online veterinary conferences including Veterinary Human Factors Live, VTX Virtual, WellVet events and VetFit Raise the Bar
  • Organised and ran large-scale in-person events including Vet Empowered Live and VETstagram
  • Project managed VSGD Live in 2022
  • Helped a small canine care membership business build their first sponsorship packages - securing £10,000 for their annual event
  • Secured £10,000 of event sponsorship for a veterinary organisation
  • Helped a practice management system bring a wellbeing feature to life, presented at a national veterinary conference
  • Gave a special interest group their starting strategy: website, position paper and meeting structure
  • Planned and formatted one-day CPD events for clients
  • Delivered sessions helping pharmaceutical sales teams understand the pressures on the veterinary teams they serve
  • Helped recruitment companies onboard new team members into the realities of the profession
  • Connected organisations with key opinion leaders and ran networking sessions across the sector
  • Worked with veterinary and animal health businesses of all sizes, from solo founders to national organisations

05 - How this works

How we'd work together

No forms. No funnels. No fifteen-step onboarding.

Email me what you're working on and where you're stuck. A few lines is plenty. I'll read it and come back to you with how we could work together. Often, I'll suggest a call for us to make sure we're a good fit for each other.

A strategy session

focused time on one question, one project, one decision. You leave with clarity and next steps.

A half-day deep dive

for when there's more to untangle. We go through the whole thing together, properly.

Ongoing advisory

me in your corner over a longer stretch, as a project takes shape.

Strategy sessions and packages start from £995. If I'm not the right person for what you need, I'll tell you that too - and where I can, I'll point you to someone who is.
